Date & Time:
Thursday, August 25, 2011 (All day)
Event Description:

Over 130 Gael students, alumni, faculty and friends attended the 9th Annual Graduate Business Golf & Bocce Tournament dinner. With seven corporate sponsors, including Provident Credit Union, KRT Marketing, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, MassMutual, Northwestern Mutual Financial, TD Ameritrade and Garaventa Enterprises and many other sponsors and raffle prize donors, the event held at the private Diablo Country Club on Monday, August 15th, 2011 was enjoyed by many.

For the first time this year, a bocce ball tournament was introduced, for those who do not golf. A fifteen minute clinic/lesson was given by Diablo Country Club bocce pro prior to the tournament's start. Teams were divided into groups of four or five, and the races began, accompanied by light jazz music and pinot grigio. Twenty-one players registered, and trophies were given to the first and second place teams.

On the golf side, there were fun games at various holes, tended by the sponsors. The morning started off with the putting contest sponsored by the Network Meeting Center at the TechMart, which was won by recent MBA alumnus Mick Rognlien. There was also a hole-in-one contest where golfers had a chance to win a Mini-Cooper. Sources say one player came within two feet of winning the grand prize. The eighteenth hole offered a golf swing video analysis by a Diablo golf pro, sponsored generously by Saint Mary's College Executive MBA alumnus Mike Clothier.

The bocce players and golf players ended simultaneously together at a cocktail/networking reception in Diablo's grand ballroom, followed by an awards dinner full of laughter and camaraderie. This
year, a record-breaking number of raffle prizes were given away, including two nights stay at La Costa or Hotel Del Coronado, including a spa or round of golf; foursomes at many various private golf country clubs in Northern California; VIP club tickets at the Giants game; a Pebble Beach gift basket; and much more. One player summarized the evening's feedback well with his email to the Saint Mary's golf committee: : "I have played in, and organized, several events like this and think you guys did an amazing job…Kudos. The networking, the course, the people, the prizes were all top tier. Very well organized and very well run. Look forward to next years' event!"
