The purpose of the leadership & social justice conference is to equip and inspire SMC and Bay Area college students with knowledge and skills to serve and work for the common good. 

PROPHETIC IMAGINATION: Confronting the new Jim Crow and Income Inequality in America.
Through networking, interactive breakout sessions, and a keynote presentation by Dr. Cornel West, the Saturday, October 11th 2014 conference attendees will examine the following issues:    
  • Income Inequality
  • Prison Industrial Complex
  • Faith/Spirituality & Economic Justice and
  • Restorative Justice

  • Schedule

    The conference will begin at 9:30am and conclude at 5:00pm on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Networking, breakout sessions, lunch and a keynote presentation with Dr. Cornel West are included.

  • Breakout sessions

    There will be approximately 10 interactive breakout sessions that focus on income inequality, the prison industrial complex, faith/spirituality & economic justice, and restorative justice.

  • Keynote Presentation

    Cornel West has a passion to communicate to a vast variety of publics in order to keep alive the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. -a legacy of telling the truth and bearing witness to love and justice.

  • Opportunity and Action Fair

    Learn about organizations that are doing meaningful work to end mass incarceration and create economic justice for all. Find graduate schools programs from the Bay Area and beyond that value leadership for social justice.
