Marks of Distinction: Gael Athletic Achievements
- Patrick Mills was named to the 2008 Australian Olympic basketball team and competes against the best in Beijing beginning on August 10. He is the fourth Saint Mary's athlete to ever compete in the Olympics. Read more.
- Men’s basketball earned AP and ESPN Top 25 rankings and an NCAA tournament berth in 2008.
- Men’s rugby ended the 2008 season ranked No. 2 in the nation after advancing to the semifinals of the Division L USA Rugby National Guard College Club Playoffs.
- The 2007-08 women's tennis team earned an Intercollegiate Tennis Ranking throughout the entire season, and was ranked as high as No. 35 in the country.
- Men’s golf reached the NCAA Championship in 2008 for the first time in its history and finished the season 30th in the country.
- Four Gael baseball players were named to the 2008 WCC/Rawlings All-Conference Baseball Team. Sophomore left fielder Kyle Jensen, a unanimous selection, and junior shortstop Joel Staples were named to the All-WCC team, Senior Brian Hawkins was named All-WCC Honorable Mention, and freshman Justin Fazio was named to the All-Freshman Team.
