Community Engagement
- In December 2008, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching recognized Saint Mary's as a leader in incorporating community engagement into the academic curriculum. The College was honored for finding ways to “address community-identified needs, deepen students' civic and academic learning, enhance community well-being and enrich the scholarship of the institution.”
- Saint Mary's College of California was named in 2006 and 2007 to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll “With Distinction” for community service work performed by its students. Read more…
- Selected by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) as one of 18 institutions to participate in a two-year project aimed at promoting personal and social responsibility among undergraduates. Read more…
Academics
- In January 2009, the American Academy for Liberal Education (AALE) commended the College's Integral Program as part of its accreditation process: "The Academy commends the College's Board and administration for maintaining such a unique and nationally important program. The Integral Program has produced many exceptional graduates over the years that have carried the aspirations of the College and the program with them and had great impact beyond Saint Mary's walls."
- Since 2004, five Saint Mary’s student projects have been judged “superior,” indicating work of publishable quality, by Sigma Xi, the international science honors society. Read more…
- Saint Mary’s College scored higher on average than their peers at comparable West Coast schools and at other institutions in the 2007 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) in providing high levels of academic challenge, collaborative learning and close student-faculty interaction.

- The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts selected the Hearst Art Gallery at Saint Mary’s College of California for an unprecedented donation of photographs by the late Pop Art icon in 2008. Read more…
- The Saint Mary's production of "Lorca in a Green Dress” was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center/American College Theater Festival in Cedar City, Utah on Feb. 16, 2007. “Lorca” was one of 10 plays selected from more than 200 entries submitted by performing arts departments across a five-state region.
