Feast or Famine
For the academic year 2008-9, the Campus Deans and Directors have chosen "Feast or Famine" as the theme for the first-year experience program. The purpose of the theme is to provide a basis for exploring a major idea that will challenge students to think in new ways. The theme cuts across different areas of academic life, campus life, and global life. It offers students an opportunity to integrate their learning about complex issues that affect everyday life but need to be addressed both in the classroom and beyond.
We hope that the obvious meanings of "feast or famine" will
be apparent, but we also hope you will see this theme in a larger, symbolic context:
what do we have an abundance of in our lives? where are we "starved" for "more"? how
do we relate to those who have "more" or "less" than we do?
