The Academic Honor Code
Fostering a community of scholars that chooses to uphold integrity, build community, and promote Lasallian values.
For the full Academic Honor Code, see:
Undergraduate Student Handbook
Graduate & Professional Student Handbook
Our mission is to:
Foreground the importance of academic integrity in the SMC community. Through the academic honor code pledge, we are asking students to agree to uphold our standards of integrity. We hope that the public statement of that commitment that takes place at Week of Welcome Convocation will lead students to embrace the underlying premises of the Academic Honor Code. We also hope that this community ritual will be an important reminder of the transition that students make when they enter and continue to be a student in the SMC community.
Enhance community education about academic integrity. The Academic Honor Council takes responsibility for enhancing our educational efforts for all members of our community. They speak at events such as freshman convocation, all-faculty day, athlete orientation, transfer orientation, first year academic cohort (FYAC) classes, freshman seminars, and events as requested. Different educational approaches are used for: new students, returning students, new faculty, returning faculty, and other relevant constituencies (such as athletic department staff, student athletes, student leaders, advising services, etc).
Encourage the SMC community to take on Lasallian values towards all persons. The Academic Honor Council prides their themselves on instilling Lasallian values by unconditional positive regard for everyone, respect for all persons and acceptance of reported students on their journey through the learning process.
