What is the CEC?
CILSA’s Community Engagement Council (CEC) serves as a resource to the Director and Associate Director of CILSA. Members of the CEC:
- Advise CILSA regarding new programmatic directions, in light of changing student need and institutional priorities;
- Assist the Director and Associate Director in developing strategies for increasing the engagement of students with social justice issues throughout their undergraduate experience and for nurturing the service community within CILSA and the College;
- Award Community Development Funds in support of social justice education and community engagement projects;
- Participate in ongoing reflection and vocational development related to their own commitments to community service and social justice; and,
- Represent CILSA on related committees (e.g., search committees) and other campus-wide forums (e.g., Shared Mission events) and events (e.g., Courage to Lead event).
Projects for 2008-2009
In addition to ideas and requests that emerge throughout the year, there are three existing projects for the CEC.
- Launch and manage the Community Development Fund process – disburse up to $4,000 to students for social justice education and community engagement projects.
- Contribute to the development of CILSA’s 10-year anniversary celebration for 2009-2010
- Plan a luncheon for CEC members and student leaders to meet local people engaged in philanthropy and social justice.
Membership
The CEC consists of individuals who represent constituencies within CILSA. Membership may also include representatives from other campus groups engaged in community service and social justice education (e.g., Lasallian Living and Learning Programs, Justice and Community Minor).
