curriculum overview
Saint Mary's 15-month T-GEMBA program requires completion of 60 units of MBA courses taught by outstanding SAINT MARY'S college tenure-track faculty and adjunct faculty members from leading institutions and organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. The coursework comprises 52 units of core courses to be completed in the San Francisco Bay Area and two overseas immersion modules (8 units) to be completed at one of Saint Mary's overseas partner campuses and learning facilities. Additionally students are expected to fulfill the following requirements:
- Program Orientation: New participants begin their program with an orientation and executive global research methods and communication module led by the faculty and academic program staff. By the end of orientation participants gain a sense of the classroom experience to come, meet with and establish relationships with other participants in the program.
- Social Service Management and Global Business Practicum Consulting Project: During the first two modules of the program in the San Francisco Bay Area, participants and their teams will be assigned their consulting client and their team assignment. They will work closely with the professors in the relevant classes on pertinent aspects of the SOSERVMAN and GLOBUSPRACT projects so that they can complete their consulting assignments by the end of the program for presentation to their overseas clients.
- Overseas Course Completion at Saint Mary's College's Overseas Partner Learning Locations: All participants are required to complete two overseas immersion courses at one or more of the overseas partner program campuses or learning facilities. Each year, the program staff selects the overseas locations where these modules are offered.
Graduation Requirements
Requirements for the completion of the T-GEMBA program and successful fulfillment of the MBA degree standards includes the following:
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B)
- Completion of fifteen required core courses (60 units)
- Completion of two overseas immersion modules in one or more of Saint Mary's College's overseas partner programs (8 units)
- Completion of SOSERVMAN/GLOBUSPRACT consulting project
Description of Courses
The core curriculum is designed to provide participants with the strong analytical and managerial skills necessary to operate in the global economy. All issues are considered in a global context, with an emphasis on teamwork, individual analysis, casework and the synthesis of strong theory with managerial practice. The sequence of courses is designed to build a systematic analytical and thematic base that enables participants to develop a global perspective grounded in strong theory. Participants may expect to spend as much as 20 hours a week on class preparation on research assignments and course writing in the three weeks prior to attending the four-day intensive course module. Pre- and post-assignments for each course are made available a month before the four-day intensive course module meetings.
