message from the dean
Welcome to the Kalmanovitz School of Education at Saint Mary's College. I am delighted that you are exploring a graduate degree, certificate or credential program with us. I hope that as you explore your options for continuing your education, I will have the chance to meet with you personally to hear about your plans and goals.
For teachers, this is an exciting and challenging time in our state's history. In the next 10 years, California will need the talents of more than a quarter-million new teachers—and experienced teachers with new skills. The demand is especially high in urban and rural areas, and in fields of math, science, bilingual education and special education. Educators at every level and in every environment are affected by issues such as school restructuring, changing demographics, early literacy learning, new teacher support, and the changing requirements of the California educational system. The Kalmanovitz School of Education at Saint Mary's College is responding actively to these issues with new courses, new programs, new approaches and new ideas. This is an exciting and rewarding time to be at Saint Mary's.
Please feel free to call upon me and my staff if we can assist you in any way. I wish you well in your continued education and in your career.
Sincerely,
Nancy L. Sorenson
Dean, Kalmanovitz School of Education
