TESOL Certificate requirements
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Supplementary Certificate
Candidates in pre-service credential programs or credentialed teachers who recognize the need to enhance their knowledge and improve their skills for educating English language learners in K-12 settings can earn a Supplementary TESOL certificate.
Prerequisites:
Single Subject Candidates:
- SSTE 346 - Teaching & Learning I or equivalent, 3 units
- SSTE 274 - Universal Access or equivalent, 3 units
Multiple Subject Candidates:
- MSTE 210 - Learning & Development in a Multicultural Society, 2 units
- MSTE 316 - Foundations of Teaching All Learners, 4 units
Education Specialist Candidates:
- SPED 230 - Inclusive Education or equivalent, 3 units
- SPED 274 - Universal Access or equivalent, 1.5 units
- SPED 362 - Student teaching I, 4 units
TESOL Certificate Courses (6 units) (Starting Spring 2009)
- TESL XXX - Teaching the Beginning English Learner, 3 units
- TESL 620 - English from the Inside Out, 3 units
(TESOL Certificate Complete - Eligible to begin coursework for M.Ed. in TESOL)
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (T ESOL) Certificate
Individuals who desire to teach English abroad or teach immigrants can earn a TESOL Certificate.

- TESL XXX - Teaching the Beginning English Learner, 3 units
- TESL 620 - English from the Inside Out, 3 units
(Starting Fall 2009)
- COM 110 - Intercultural Communication, 3 units
- TESL XXX - Teaching the Advanced English Learner, 2 units
- TESL 420 - Introduction to Second Language Acquisition, 3 units
- TESL 438 - Practicum, 1-3 units
(TESOL Certificate Complete - With B.A., eligible to begin coursework for M.A. in TESOL)
