Master of Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
Students who have completed a SMC teaching credential program can pursue a Master of Education in TESOL.
Prerequisite: Completion of a teaching credential program at SMC

- TESL 610 -Testing and Assessment, 3 units
- TESL 630 -Sociolinguistics, 3 units
- TESL 640 -Preparation and Evaluation of ESL/EFL Materials, 3 units
- TESL 431 -Teaching English-as-a-Second-Language to Adult Learners, 3 units
Research Courses (9 units)
- EDUC 572 - Research Seminar, 3 units
- EDUC 582 - Literature Review and Proposal Writing, 3 units (Prerequisite: EDUC 572)
- EDUC 592 or 597 - Thesis/Synthesis Project, 3 units (Prerequisite EDUC 582)

Students who have completed the TESL certificate program at UC Berkeley Extension can pursue a Master of Arts in TESOL.
Prerequisite: Completion of the TESL certificate program at UC Berkeley Extension
