Supervised Teaching Placements
Each candidate must successfully complete 2 supervised teaching assignments at 2 different grade levels (K–2, 3–5, 6–8) in public schools. The Supervised Teaching II placement must qualify as low performing and/or hard to staff and include ethnically and linguistically diverse learners. Placements are made in collaboration with the Field Experience Coordinator, candidate, principal and program director. A college supervisor from the School of Education visits the school regularly to confer with the master teacher and candidate.
Before candidates can register for Supervised Teaching II, they must pass CBEST, complete the subject matter competence requirement (e.g. CSET)and demonstrate competency in the Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs), and pass the Performance Assessment for California Teachers (PACT).

- MSTE 345 - Curriculum and Instruction: Social Science and Humanities, 3 units
- MSTE 314 - Seminar: Integrating Theory, Practice, and the Arts, 3 units
- MSTE 240 - PACT Practicum, 2 units
- MSTE 349 - Curriculum and Instruction: Science, 3 units
- MSTE 350 - Curriculum and Instruction: Mathematics, 3 units
- MSTE 254 - Reading and Language Arts II, 3 units
- MSTE 318 - Teaching Diverse Learners, 3 units
- MSTE 310 - Supervised Teaching I, 3 units
- MSTE 320 - Supervised Teaching II, 3 units
Employed candidates may replace MSTE 320 Supervised Teaching II with a combination of both MSTE 330 Supervised Teaching III and MSTE 440 Field Experiences and Methods II for Teaching English as a Second Language.
