major requirements
All Psychology majors are required to take the following 9 courses:
- Psych. 1: Intro. to Personality-Social Psychology
- Psych. 2: Intro. to Physio.-Exper. Psychology
- Psych. 3: Research Methods & Analysis I
- Psych. 4: Research Methods & Analysis II
- Psych. 100: Seminar in Psychology
- Psych. 110: Psychobiology + Lab
- Psych. 140: Human Development
- Psych. 150: Personality Theory
- Psych. 160: Social Psychology
Course Prerequisites and Requirements
In addition to individual course prerequisites, Psychology 1 and 2 are required for admission to all upper division psychology courses. Psychology 3 and 4 are required for admission to some upper division Psychology courses (as indicated in the course descriptions). A minimum grade of C- is required in all prerequisites. Prerequisites may be waived at the discretion of the instructor.
Lower Division
Psychology 1, 2, 3 and 4 are required for all psychology majors. Psychology 1 and 2 are required for admission to all upper division psychology courses, and Psychology 3 and 4 are required for admission to some upper division psychology courses, as indicated in the course descriptions. A minimum grade of C- in all prerequisites is required for admission to all courses; prerequisites may be waived at the discretion of the instructor.
Upper Division
You can choose from 3 Bachelor of Science (B.S.) majors in the Psychology department: General Psychology, Experimental/Neuroscience Psychology, or Developmental Psychology.
The B.S. in General Psychology
For the student who wants a general education in psychology, a sequence of upper division courses in addition to the Core Curriculum which must include Psychology 103 or 104, 110, 126, or 127, and 1 course each from 3 of the following areas of concentration:
- Biological courses: 113, 115, 157
- Developmental courses: 141, 142, 143, 144, 147
- Personality courses: 148, 152, 174
- Social courses: 165, 172, 180
The B.S. in Experimental/Neuroscience Psychology
For the student with an interest in the biological bases of behavior, a sequence of upper division courses in addition to the Core Curriculum which must include Psychology 103, 104, 113 or 115, 126, and 127.
The B.S. in Developmental Psychology
For the student interested in working with individuals in educational or social service settings, 2 tracks are offered:
- Child/Adolescent track
Upper division courses must include Psychology 100, either 103 or 104, 110, 140, 141, 142, 144, 150, 160, and any one of the following:
Psychology 147, 148, 165, 174
Anthropology 113.
A field study (Psychology 195) is strongly recommended.
- Adolescent/Adult track
Upper division courses must include Psychology 100, either 103 or 104, 110, 140, 142, 143, 150, 160, and any 2 of the following:
Psychology 115, 147, 157, 165, 174.
A field study (Psychology 195) is strongly recommended.
