Congratulations to you all for another AMAZING job in New Orleans! Shawny, you give so much of yourself to arrange all this and allow your SMC group to experience a life changing job - both for Rosie and friends, but for the students as well. NOLA will always be in their hearts, and the Jan crews will always be in the hearts of all they have touched. Emily has loved the 4 trips; I think it has marked her life forever. We are proud of her and all of you and are glad to see you all coming home safely. Thank you all for taking us along for the ride via the blog. Hugs to all and lots of rest in your comfy beds! We aer so proud of all you have done for the city of New Orleans! The experience you have all shared with each other and with us (the parents, family and friends) as had a major impact on all of our lives. It just goes to show what a little hardwork and a lot of heat can accomplish! We miss you and welcome you all home.

After reading your daily blogs, I have been so proud & impressed with what you were able to accomplish over the past month. The videos and pictures have looked really good; it is amazing to see how all of you continue to rebuild and rejuvenate the city of New Orleans. I have to be honest, when I saw the picture of Jack Watson I had the immediate impulse to want to leave my job, jump on a plane and head back to New Orleans to work alongside all of you.
Shawny: it is amazing to think how your response to a tragedy that occurred in August of 2005 is still changing lives. I am continually in awe of what you’ve been able to do in New Orleans and the lives you have been able to change at Saint Mary’s (including my own).
Justin & Chris: just thinking about you guys makes me smile; you are the heart of the Saint Mary’s experience in New Orleans and we have all been lucky to work alongside you!
Emily, Elijah & Shane: Since the first year we went to New Orleans you three have stood out. You guys have some of the brightest personalities and kindest dispositions. If I had to be stranded on an island, you are three of the people I would want to get stuck with! I am confident that you continued to be a bright light in the city of New Orleans.
Aaron, Bryan, Kate, Lindsay, Linzy, Matt & Tommy: “You did it, you really did it.” Another January in New Orleans, I wish I could have been there to share it with you guys.
I hope you all had an amazing time living, serving and growing down in New Orleans – we are all proud of you back home. I’ll try my best to make it up on the 13th for your presentation – I would love to see your videos first hand!
Love Your One & Only,
“Corn-Dog”
P.S. Jed, you’re still a hottie!!!

Last night as we stood on Rosie’s deck and her porch and all said goodbye my heart sank. Each year when St. Mary’s bus has arrived my heart has leapt with joy and each year as you all depart I feel such sorrow. You have all touched me by your desire and willingness to come and live in very “unusual” conditions as you labor for Rosie and many others in our city. As I hugged each of you it was hard to let go. So many of you have traveled this journey of rebuilding with us from the very beginning and many have joined in on for the first time this year on this massive labor of love. The more I sit here and try to think how I can put into words my appreciation for each of you the more I realize words can not even come close to expressing my thanks or my love for each of you. Shawney I would not even know where to start to thank you. You are a special person with a beautiful heart. I hope to see all of you again. You know how to find me. I expect to hear from each of you again. You each need to come down to New Orleans on a leisure trip and enjoy the city and all of its culture we hold on to so tightly down here. Love, Lisa

Dangit, it cut me off! And it got abridged? ... ok, the rest just goes,
"There are those who have little and give it all.
These are the believers in life and the bounty of life, and their coffer is never empty.
There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward."
And that is you. I am so fortunate to know you guys, you are ALL amazing human beings!!! And for those of you that I don't yet know, I wish I did, you seem to be incredible. My love goes out to all of you. Savour your moments there, and have a safe trip home!

To Shawny and all of Shawny's angels (I always wanted to be the one to say that!) -
I am in absolute awe of you. Honestly. I'm actually crying right now, (I'm such a sap!) Your NOLA blog is the first thing I look forward to each morning and you couldn't imagine how much joy you bring, not only to New Orleans, but to those of us reading and watching you change the world. I'll probably not be as eloquent as I'd like to in this note, so instead I'll leave you a little piece of Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet" which I think will have some meaning for you all :
-"Then said a rich man, Speak to us of Giving.
And he answered:
You give but little when you give of your possessions.
-->It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. And there are those who have little and give it all.

When you reached your 5000 I cried...I knew you could and would do it.
What you all have done in less than a month, in 5000 hours, is nothing more than amaxing....how about swinging on up to the White House and telling them how it should be done.
You inspire us to do more and to reach beyond our comfort zones.
Have a safe flight

It is amazing that y’all have accomplished 5000 hours of work but then again y’all are an amazing group. As unbelievable as the amount of work all of you have done is, the quality of that work and the heart and soul you have all put into it is even more amazing. No obstacle has been too great for y’all to overcome. You have each left a permanent mark on our great city. All of you are now part of the history of rebuilding New Orleans after the terrible destruction cause by Katrina. (By the way Katrina is looked at as a curse word around here and FEMA is considered the F word now) None of us can thank y’all enough for what you have sacrificed to be here and work as hard as you have. I pray that God blesses each of you and your families. It was a pleasure to see y’all participate in our carnival season. I hope that each of you enjoyed it as much as Bruce and I enjoyed sharing our city’s culture with all of you. I hope one day you can return and bring your family and friends and celebrate Mardi Gras Day with us. New Orleans is now your home away from home. Keep us always in your hearts as you will all always be n our hearts. I hope to see each of you on Monday. Stay safe.

As a read your recap of Monday’s workday I thought how true that this group does do “tons” of work and can “move mountains”. You have done it over and over again for the last three years. No matter what the job at hand St. Mary’s always accomplishes it and always with a smile. Your desire to help and your pleasantry while doing so is so uplifting to all of us here in New Orleans. We can use your smiles and energy to push us forward in the rebirth of our city. I love you guys and can not begin to thank you all enough for all you have done for Rosie and every other person you have helped while you are here in New Orleans. Each horn blown at you on North Claiborne as you work is a big hug and thank you from those of us here in New Orleans. I know I have not had a lot of time to spend with you guys this trip but you are each in my heart and prayers everyday and I hope to get to see you all today or tomorrow. God bless all of you!

Hey Brad,
I have been following the blog & watching the videos! I am so excited for you as this opportunity you have taken will forever be life changing. You will look back at this for years to come. There is nothing greater in life then to give to those less fortunate then oursleves. Often times we take for granted just how much we have in our lives! It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day living. It is not until we stop & take opportunites like the one you have taken to look beyond ourselves and reach out to others. I think of you daily & pray for you and your team. It is times like this and the motivation you & your team have that give us hope for the future! I am very proud of you!

You having made the choice to take this trip has brought alot to mind. I think these lyrics best describe my feelings to you at this time.
"I hope you never look back but you never forget all the ones who love you and the place that you left.I hope you always forgive and never regret And you help somebody every chance that you get.Oh you find Gods grace in every mistake. But always give more than you take. But My wish for you is life becomes all that you want it to.Your dreams stay big your worries stay small. You never never need to carry more than you can hold. And while your out there gettin to where your gettin to I hope you know somebody Loves you and wants the same things too-My wish for you.

Oh, you wonderful people! I really look forward to reading this blog and seeing the videos every single day! If I read something sad in the newspaper or fret about the state of the world, I just think, "Yeah, but there are really GOOD things happening in New Orleans!" I loved seeing those sweet puppies and really loved the "My favorite part of the trip so far..." video - it was neat to hear all the different responses. I laughed out loud at Shawny's heart being warmed by the sound of students RACING to be back by 10:59! While you all work out in the elements to provide shelter for others, it makes me so appreciate what it means to have a warm, dry house to come home to, and it makes me realize how much I take it for granted. This is a wonderful thing you are doing.

A number of years ago the teno;clock news used to include a blurb "do you know where your children are?' and most of the time we could answer in the affirmative. Imagine our surprise when we read that Sherry has joined the auspicious NOLA group and learned this by reading the NOLA blogs. Are jobs limited for a "one-arm paperhanger"? Our last knowledge of the situation was that she was still wearing a sling.
Give our best regards to all and especially Hof Foot, Ribbit, et al.
Perserve in your worthy endeavors!

Lindsay Jo, the principle of my school says I'm not handsome enough to have had a girl as good looking as you. So, I guess you get your good looks from your mom. He also said that if he has kids (he just got married) he hopes they will do what you all are doing in serving others. Way to be an inspiration.

Hey Guys! Sorry I have not been by for the past several days but I have been keeping up with y’all on the web. You are all doing such a great job. Habitat is so lucky to have all of you and well Rosie she just can't say enough wonderful things about all of you. She calls me each day reporting how wonderful all of you are to her and how she doesn't think she deserves it all. I just keep telling her how all of you love her and want to help her. I hope to get by some time on Saturday. Lauren is not happy that she has not seen you guys yet. She will make sure we get to see all of you this weekend at some point I am sure. Missing all of you and keeping all of you in my prayers. Stay safe.
Love,

After reading about and having a look at all the work, that is, A L L the work and then some, that you all have been doing, it was a joy to hear that you got some extra zzzzzs and had a breakfast feast. Thank you Shawny and the Cookin' Crew for putting that treat together and, as well, a shout out for the Binege brigade.
A bit of dyness for your feet and renewed energy is my wish for you all.

We've been following your reports each day and look forward to your progress. You are all to be congratulated on your excellent work effort and dedication to the task at hand. Each day's accomplishments are a vital part of the "big picture" of rebuilding, restoring, revitalizing and reawakening of NOLA. The day will come when you will recall your vital cog in getting the gears all moving again. Take heart, enjoy, move ahead, BUT never rest on your laurels. There is always another task to challenger you as a person and a significan part of a group.
Cheers y'all!
The Anderson clan and its extended families are backing you.

I miss you all! I am jealous that you will be hanging out in the French Quarter tonight. You are working so hard and I know having an incredible experience - one that will be with you for a lifetime. The people you are helping will have that lifetime memory as well. What a blessing you all are. Enjoy yourselves - but not too much. I look forward to your videos and appreciate your generous thank you's!!!

Katie, I'm impressed!! and a little jealous. You know I love to remodel, and now you're doing it. I'm really proud of you and all the SMC teams there. I hope the city and state appreciate all your hard work and dedication.
Sorry I haven't written earlier...I didn't know you guys read these things.
Hope the weather is getting better. How are the puppies? You probably don't need advice, but I find 3 coats of mud works and at the end use a sponge and water to smooth out. Don't sand because that just makes a lot of dust. Isn't it fun to patch up any holes and dings to make a perfect wall?
Also, use the broken concrete to make a retaining wall or raised bed. It may be useless material, but it doesn't look too bad.
Keep up the GREAT work and make sure you get some rest. We love you Katie (and the rest of you guys).

I can't wait to hear all about your crazy good Samaritan stylings. well, there I was thinking, hey...I can handle watching you all work hard, sleeping in a bus, eating food that well....I guess is food...and saying to myself, I'm a second year NOLA mom I know the score...the time is really going by fast...the kids are young, I did this type of stuff when I was their age....yea, yea, blah, blah...and then
it hit....
I never did in my youth half of what you all have done this past week or so....I never put up with conditions that you all have and I can darn well tell you that I never even attempted to down the food you have eaten.... and then it hit....
just how proud I am to say to people what you are doing...and then to hear how in awe they are of it all, how proud I am of all of you knowing that you have changed peoples lives forever...and then it hit....
how much the time is really gonig by too slow for this second year NOLA mom....and then it hit....
I miss you, Lindsay (and gang) come home soon and stay safe...

Hi-
Loved the rap video (and I'm not a rap fan)-the crayfish eating demonstration (though I don't think I could eat one-yikes! sucking the fat out of the head-), and seeing the amazing work and progress you've made. It was so touching to hear Rosie speak of you as her family and her heartfelt appreciation for all the love and work you've shared. No doubt about it...you're awesome!! How are the puppies? Who knew you'd become surrogate parents too!! I hope you are able to fatten them up and find them a good home. Take care and blessings to all of you

Wait a minute…where are all the Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes? Unacceptable.
Congratulations everyone for everything you’ve accomplished thus far! It seems like you all are having a blast and getting things done over there! I am completely jealous. May you also continue to have such great weather!
It was very emotionally painful for Janeva and I to see you all board the bus, and not go along, but the work you are completing will never cease to inspire. It is an entirely different experience to be on the other end this time, but I am so blessed to have been a part of this incredible revolution that would have never been possible without one woman. And you all know whom I am talking about. Momma Shawny, thank you for all that you do. Much love goes to you, the people you touch, and the lives you continue to transform.
To you all experiencing NOLA for the first time, soak it all up as much as you can. It’s good for the soul. If you never waste a moment, NOLA will change you for the rest of your life, as it did mine. And DO NOT get behind on those journals!
To Tommy, Aaron, Linzy, B-ry, Pelascini, Emily, Elijah, LindSAY, Shane, Bree, Justin, and Chris…thank you for continuing your service to this great city. I miss you all very much.
To my fabulous duo: Kate and J-Fed. I look back at our amazing times together and will forever place them in my heart. I hope you two are doing some incredible things, and touching even more lives out there. I would do anything to reunite the Fab 5 back in NOLA, but I am sure your new team is even better!!! Kate, make sure to keep J-Fed in check, as surely all the females are beginning to discover just how much our Jed is a stud-muffin.
And finally to my dear friend M-dog Wheeler. It has been a complete joy to sit back and watch you transform into the person you are today over the past year and a half. You say that it was I that once inspired you to serve….but it seems now that the tables have turned. This time, I must be the one to say thank you. I will be forever grateful for the inspiration you have given me to continue service to my community.
You all are never far from my thoughts. I run home everyday, excited to read the next blog and watch the videos. So keep them coming! May you all continue to have an incredible, fulfilling, and blessed experience.
In love and service,
Vince

I of course have to start by saying hi to all the vets and to the amazing Shawny Anderson. My few paragraphs will not begin to express my pride in what you are doing. I am so honored to have been a part of such a group (even if it was for a shortened time), and I swell up with tears when I read and watch what you're doing this year.
To the newcomers- as someone who didn't get to do as much as I would have liked to while I was there, please cherish your time in NOLA. It sounds like you're already fully into making a huge difference.
Just to let you know, I live in so cal now, and Brad Pitt came into the theatre I work at in Hollywood a few days ago. So, hopefully he'll fly back your way so he can have the honor of meeting all of you and get a few construction and demolition tips.
There is no doubt that the city of New Orleans will become a bit brighter within the next two weeks.

Hey guys! Sorry I did not make it out to Rosie's yesterday. It looks like y’all accomplished a great deal. Happy Birthday Shane (aka Burt). I am once again amazed at all this group can accomplish. I see taking on the most difficult task around is still a favorite of the group. I can not believe y’all are trying to get rid of the pecan tree stump. It must be wonderful to be so young and have so much energy. Rosie’s yard already looks so much better. It is like angels have come and transformed the yard from a weed infested area to an actual yard once again. As I read about the dogs that have been a part of the last three trips I thought how true that we have come from a dark an desolate state to a area beginning to see the signs of renewal. Much of this is due to you and others like you. Thank you ! Thank you! Thank you! I can not relay how much we all appreciate all you have and are doing for us and the future New Orleans.

Hola NOLA crew and greetings from Managua, Nicaragua. This has been my first chance to get to an internet cafe in the week that I have been here and I am so excited to read a little of your blog and see some pictures. I do not have quite enough time to read and see it all but it sounds like you guys are doing some great work and that the weather has been at least decent the last few days. Happy belated birfdays to Justin and the Keanester hope they had a blast (and maybe ate some crawfish or alligator tail to celebrate? ooh I am so jealous).
Nicaragua has been an amazing experience so far, (I will try to write more about it in a Facebook note), definitely up there with my NOLA experience (though I will always have a piece of my heart in NOLA with a tattoo to remind me of it). In some ways its similar and someways not. We spent 5 days in the mountain countryside in a homestay with coffee farmers that was just amazing. I think my NOLA experience prepped me well too. The latriens smell like portapotties (though they have the added bonus of spiders flies and bugs), the shower is a stall with a bucket and a cold water hose, and the meals always include beans and rice. I am loving it. The land is beautiful, and the people are so kind. I know several of you have a few other friends and loved ones in Nicaragua so make sure to bug them for stories (oh and there are stories) and pictures just like I am going to bug you guys when we all get back to good ol Moraga.
Paz y amor,
Tim

It was so great seeing the video of you guys setting up camp. I am
truly impressed with all the creativity. If the weather is anything
similar to last year, the gutters will be extremely helpful. Watching
the video brought back some great memories for me and I am so happy
that Shawny decided to take another group to Nola.
To all the veterans, I love you guys and I am so jealous I can't be
with you. Kate, LindSAY, LinZY, Bryan, Matty, Tommy, Dr. Aaron, Em,
Shane, Face (Elijah), Justin and Chris you guys are so awesome and I
am sure you will do some incredible things over there.
To all the newcomers, all I can say is you are in for a terrific
ride!! Work your hardest everyday and give it all you got. If you
aren't sweating ten minutes into any job, you aren't working hard
enough!
Shawny, (you better read this part out loud!) I don't think you
realize how truly amazing you are for taking another group to Nola and
enduring another month of hard work. Your passion and determination
for helping others is so wonderfully contagious and I hope everyone on
that bus realizes just how lucky they are to be there with you. You
are an inspiration.
I look forward to watching more videos and reading about your daily
adventures. You are all in my prayers.
And of course I couldn't sign out without first saying (dramatic
pause)….RED DRANK!! Clap it up for that one guys (Bryan and Matty
that's your cue to start the clap!!)

Hi Aaron and gang,
It is good to see you are all well and getting back into the swing of things.
How are the puppies? I found a resue center online, it is a volunteer effort in New Orleans.
The group is "ARNO"(animal rescue neworleans)

Hopefully your friends have already found help.

Lindsay Ryberg, I'm sending the video blogs to all of the family and everyone is completely amazed at the work you all are doing and the conditions in which you are doing it. I was brought to tears today when I saw your diligence to continue to provide shelter for people when you, yourselves, were completely exposed to the pouring rain. You all will receive many jewels in your crown in heaven. All of us are so very proud of you. You're in our constant thoughts and we love being able to see what you're up to via the video blogs. God Bless you my love, Love Mom

Once again the NOLA teams amaze and touch so many people. I loved the roof choreography...the stepping action on the ladders was so well coordinated! Sorry the rain is upon you, but it doesn't seem to have slowed you down or dampened your spirits. I love the use of Beatles music too. I look forward to reading the blogs and watching the videos every day...it's the BEST!!! Blessings to all of you!!! P.S. Hi Shawny!!!

Once again the NOLA crew brings a ray (or two) of sunshine into the lives of many folks in NO and around the globe. As impressive as your work is I am truly delighted by your use of the Beatles!!!

We have snow here. We have been having the same torrential rain as you but we are not outside working in it. Keep up the good work. Will you finish all 10 houses?
We are glad you savred the puppies, or tried.
Wear safety goggles when sawing! ( see how closely we are watching you!)

Hi Lindsay and one and all NOLA ites,
Congratulations on your gutting work. That sounds like something that needed to happen for a long time and its great you are there to do it. The thing with pancakes is, they always take a long time. So any engineer types who can figure out how to serve those hot cakes fast, well they should be treated to something sepecial. I know Lindsay likes Mufalatas and Bineges (how do you spell that?), but maybe food rewards for food service is just too much food. Anyway, with all the great work you are doing, I hopw you will all eat plenty for breakfast.
One more thing, if I may be so bold to offer some information. I just found out today that a pastor from an African American Catholic church is giving a presentation here in Los Angeles next month. He also teaches at Xavier University. So, I was reading about him and he has a beautiful old church building and a gospel choir which he is bringing out here with him. I just put their info below incase anyone is interested in worshiping there.
God bless you each and thank you for your inspiring work!
Love to Lindsay Jo Swo and all of you SMCers.

Your tents and GUTTERS look awesome...and I am so glad to see those little lights. The shower area with lovely basins is by far the snaziest spa any NOLA group has had.
It never ceases to amaze me that you all arrive in New Orleans and pickup nails, hammers, 2x4's, paint, shovels and begin refurbishing and rebuilding as though you had been doing it all of your lives. Maybe it's the dress rehearsal that Shawny puts you through before you leave SMC!
Marcia is not there so I can say that once again...you make me weep! Your enthusiasm for making it a better world leaves me speechless and that in itself, is quite a feat.
Stay dry and sleep warm!
Shawnster, you've done it A G A I N!!!
All my love,
penny

So for those of you who remember, the first time we went to New Orleans, they thought it would only take a few months to go back to normal. Then it turned to a few years. Here we are a few years later and there is still so much work to be done. Donald Trump's Gulf Corse?
I would like to be one of the many who reminds you, you are all amazing. Shawny, you are an exceptional leader and there is no one else that could do the job as well as you. I wish I could be there with you all. It sounds like you have already started getting a taste of that New Orleans work ethic: work, work, work until you can't anymore. It always seems there are never enough hours of sunlight in the day. At the end of the day, its a good tired. I know you hear this about 1,000x a day but what you are doing is a really great thing. The people you meet and interact with, you are restoring their hope and faith in others and in the fact that New Orleans is not forgotten. Keep Up The Good Work :OD

Very excited group here who got the "shout out" from y'all. They are mostly sure they do not want to live on the bus, especially after the storm report, but the are also in love with the port-a-jon name.
The advice:
Get up earlier...if we can be here at 7:45 so can you!
No sympathy from this crowd.

Hello all! We got curious so we watched the video of your first day and whatnot. Lookin' gooooood! Try and stay warm and eat lots of that amazing food *ahem* that you all have over there while making so many people happy. You guys are amazing.
Tommy Bellllll and Serg-Man, we miss you. Kyle sometimes bursts into random bouts of tears so now he carries around a box of tissues. Kaitlin misses you too but will still have her party without you. Ha!
