scholarships
All scholarships at Saint Mary's are renewable for up to 4 years. With the exception of the Presidential Scholars Scholarships, there are no separate application forms to complete. Students will automatically be considered for any award for which they are eligible. Merit scholarships are only awarded to students who are admitted before March 2. Scholarships are awarded to full-time undergraduates who demonstrate financial need. To renew a scholarship you must submit a renewal application and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Saint Mary's College General Scholarships--$1,000-$24,000 annually
These need-based grants are provided annually by both endowed funds and tuition revenues. Award amounts depend on student demonstrated financial need.
Presidential Scholars Scholarships--Scholarships of $8,000 annually
Freshmen students admitted with a GPA of at least 3.8 and a combined SAT Critical Reading and Math score of at least 1350 (or 31 on the ACT) will be eligible for consideration. Eligible students are also required to complete an application screening process.
Freshman Honors at Entrance Scholarships--$12,000 annually
Freshmen students admitted with a GPA of at least 3.7 and a combined SAT Critical Reading and Math score of at least 1200 (or a 27 on the ACT) will automatically receive this award.
Transfer Honors at Entrance Scholarships--$8,000 annually
Transfer students entering with 30 or more transfer academic semester units or the equivalent and a 3.5 college GPA will receive this award.
- are accepted by March 2 for the Fall semester
- have 30 or more transferable academic semester units at the time of acceptance
- have a 3.5 cumulative transferable academic GPA
Lasallian Leadership Scholarship--$8000 annually
Entering freshmen with an academic GPA of 3.3 from Christian Brothers' High School in the United States will automatically receive this award.
Macken Collegiate Forensics Scholarship Program--$1,000-$10,000
Saint Mary's College Macken Collegiate Forensics program is able to offer
several scholarship opportunities to incoming freshman and currently enrolled
SMC students. Students are selected to receive scholarships based on their level
of commitment to the Macken team, their competitive potential and contributions,
and their academic standing (at least 3.0 GPA).

Other SMC Scholarships
Most of Saint Mary's scholarships are restricted to students who demonstrate need. However, several scholarships have additional criteria, such as geographic restrictions or ethnic restrictions (e.g., Joseph David Cardoza scholarship for students of Portuguese descent).
Non-SMC Scholarships
Private organizations and corporations offer a variety of scholarships, which can be used to fund your education at Saint Mary's. Send outside agency scholarship payments, payable to "Saint Mary's College" to the Financial Aid Office at PO Box 4530, Moraga, CA 94575-4530.
Students may receive scholarships to study abroad in a NON SMC program. One common scholarship is the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. To find out more information please select the link. www.iie.org/programs/gilman/index.html
