Afternoon Craft Conversation: Richard Moore
“POETRY AND POLITICS” BY RICHARD MOORE
Wednesday, NOVEMBER 30, 2:30 p.m., Hagerty Lounge
Questions about the relationship between poetry and politics flow from fundamental questions about language and reality. Add to this the unreliability of perception and memory, and you have a complex world in which nothing is to be taken for granted. Weaving personal anecdotes about poets from John Ashbery to Louis Zukofsky, Richard Moore – a poet, filmmaker and public broadcasting executive whose Writing the Silences, a selection of poems from 1946 to 2008, was published recently by the University of California Press – considers how the arts follow rather than initiate revolutions.
