Translated by David S. Slavitt, Univ. of Penn. Classics Series
adapted by Saundra Alassio
This modern adaptation, using Aeschylus in contemporary poetic translation,
will run four times, one hour each time:
- Monday, 5:00 to 6:00 PM and 8:00 to 9:00 PM.
- and Tuesday, 5:00 to 6:00 PM and 8:00 to 9:00 PM.
Actors from San Francisco, Oakland, Moraga, Lafayette--all over the Bar Area--as well as Directors and Technical Staff--have been working on and rehearsing this one-hour modern version for months, using Slavitt's Univ/Penn. text.
We hope it will be useful to your students whether for writing reviews or bringing new ideas into the classroom. They can also stay after the hour-long performance and ask questions of the Director and the actors, to find out how this classic / modern Agamemnon was put together, and how the actors do their work.
Saundra Alassio, faculty member, and SMC grad of our MFA Creative Writing Program, will star as Clytemnestra; John Chakan, a Stanford grad, plays Agamemnon. Many other familiar Bay Area actors who have acted here before are returning.
Much help comes from the Performing Arts Dept., Prof. Michael Cook, Technical Expert Extraordinaire, and many students, too.
