The Alumni-Admissions Program is looking to expand the participation of Alumni actively involved in expanding the recruitment of students of color for future incoming classes. It is part of the mission of the college to enroll students with varied backgrounds in order to enable our community to take advantage of the educational benefits of diversity. In a message to the Saint Mary's Community on March 25th, 2008, President Brother Ronald Gallagher addressed the importance of our student body accurately reflecting the diversity of the West Coast.
"The changing nature of our students and the experiences they bring with them has changed our learning environment, creating the opportunity for Saint Mary's to be known as a leader in inclusive, collaborative learning."
The Admissions Office is looking to our active alumni from underrepresented minority groups who value the importance of diversity in education to help us in our recruitment efforts. Your valuable experience may be the deciding factor in whether or not a student may decide to attend Saint Mary's. As part of this new group within the Alumni-Admissions Program, you will work directly with the Coordinator of Minority Student Recruitment by assisting in targeted college fairs in the fall, calling admitted minority students in the spring, and working with community-based organizations throughout the year.
If you are interested in participating, please click the link below to sign up for the Alumni-Admissions Program, indicating an interest in Minority Student Recruitment, and you will be contacted regarding future initiatives requiring your participation. For additional information, please feel free to contact Damien Fatongia, Alumni-Admissions Program at dff1@stmarys-ca.edu or (925) 631-4745.
Remember what it was like when you were first admitted to Saint Mary's College of California? Do you wish you had someone to talk to about what it is like to live, attend classes, and make friends in Moraga, California? Where is Moraga?
If you remember those days, The International Alumni Admissions Program could use your help. Even if you don't remember, we will train you! As Saint Mary's College expands its visibility across the globe, we are looking to expand the number of international volunteers participating in the program. If you are looking for a fun and easy way to connect to your alma mater and with alumni in your region, this is the way to do it!
International students are a distinct and remarkable segment of our prospective applicant pool each year. They greatly benefit from our alumni who are able to describe for them the transition of attending college in the United States, life on the SMC campus, the beauty of the San Francisco Bay Area and the diversity of the local attractions.
The IAAP is hoping to expand the number of volunteers who live outside the US and the number of countries covered in the program. Current volunteers work with the Admissions Office on recruitment activities in their communities such as attending college fairs, doing presentations at EducationUSA Offices, calling or emailing accepted students with messages of "Congratulations!", and sharing stories or experiences of being a student at Saint Mary's College of California. Our campus-based Coordinator of International Admissions is not able to cover the world alone – but will visit you when traveling to your country - to reach the College goal of new international enrollees each fall. Your assistance is greatly valued and appreciated!
If you live outside the US, want to be involved in bringing great students to your alma mater and connect with local alumni, please sign up online or contact Lin Larson, Director of International Recruitment at (925) 631-4930 or ll4@stmarys-ca.edu. We welcome new volunteers year round!
