American Rugby News has the men's team ranked number three behind Cal and BYU. The San Francisco Chronicle wrote recently about their success. Cheer them on at newly renovated Pat Vincent Field on April 6 as they start their playoff run.

Commencement Speakers Announced
SMC announced its speakers for undergraduate, graduate and extended education commencement ceremonies. The Most Reverend Bishop Emeritus John S. Cummins, AFSC, will speak at the Undergraduate Commencement on May 26, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will speak at the School of Extended Education graduation on June 2. Other schools' commencement speakers include Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools Joseph A. Ovick, Ed.D. for the School of Education, and Kent Williams '77 for the School of Economics and Business Administration.

Biology Professor Lawrence Cory ’39 was the profiled in the Contra Costa Times on March 26. The article recounted Cory's 55-year teaching career at Saint Mary's and his many interests, including salamanders and the risk posed by chemicals to the environment. On March 27, he was honored asprofessor of the year.

Christopher Buckley ’69 has received a Guggenheim Fellowship award, the Lompoc Record reported on March 25. Buckley, a creative writing professor at UC Riverside, has published 14 books of poetry and two books of nonfiction. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, Crazyhorse and more.

Monica (Doody) Anderson ’84 runs a business called Remanents, a New Jersey-based greeting card company that immortalizes treasured clothing, the Contra Costa Times reported on March 27. People send her a garment, tell her its significance and Anderson may cut up to 1,000 cards from it.
