MORAGA, CA (May 10, 2004) â€“â€“ Saint Mary's College of California, the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, and the California Maritime Academy at Vallejo are sponsoring a new class titled The Sea, an Interdisciplinary Odyssey.
The course, which will be offered in the fall 2004 semester, will explore the maritime community - with a special emphasis on the San Francisco Bay Area - through the prism of a variety of academic subjects. Professors from Saint Mary's College, the University of California at Berkeley, the California Maritime Academy, Sonoma State University, the College of Marin, and Menlo College will share their areas of expertise through an imaginative mix of seminars and field trips. Subjects discussed in the course will include literature, history, anthropology, archaeology, political science, sociology, and museology. The course is open to the public and to students enrolled in institutions other than Saint Mary's College and the California Maritime Academy. Students at Saint Mary's College and the California Maritime Academy will enroll through their normal channels.
