Students and fans of Gael athletics will see significant upgrades to athletic and recreational facilities when they return to campus this fall.
Changes include structural improvements to the Korth Tennis Complex, Louis Guisto Baseball Field, Saint Mary's Stadium, Madigan Gym and McKeon Pavilion. Women's rowing will have dedicated on-campus space on the practice field adjacent to the stadium.
"All of these improvements will benefit student-athletes, fans, alumni and students," said Athletic Director Mark Orr.
The stadium field has been resurfaced for lacrosse and soccer competition. The Madigan bleacher section has been converted into a student fitness center with treadmills, exercise bikes, elliptical trainers and other equipment.
McKeon Pavilion will sport chair-back seating behind the team benches, blue bleachers on the opposite side, refurbished VIP seating on the second level behind the north basket and a new sound system.
The improvements will make McKeon a more attractive venue for television. The West Coast Conference (WCC), which last year contracted with Fox Sports and ESPN to televise selected conference basketball match-ups, is expected to announce in the next several weeks its 2006-07 television package.
