Game-time at SMC involves screaming, shouting and sign-waving as much as dunking, passing and scoring. The Gael Force, our student fan club, is one of the best cheering sections in the country.

What position do you want to play at Saint Mary’s? Are you ready to compete in Division I athletics? Or are you excited to try a club sport like rugby? Maybe you’d prefer bouldering on one of our outdoor adventure trips. Or maybe you’re the dodgeball type, or an ultimate star in the making. Whatever you’re into, Saint Mary’s has a team for you.
We have 14 Division I Athletic Programs, 10 club teams, and more than 30 intramural sports. More than 60 percent of our students participate in some kind of recreational activity, and many of them play more than one sport.
We take spectating very seriously too. Game-time at SMC involves screaming, shouting and sign-waving as much as dunking, passing and scoring. The GaelForce, our student fan club, is one of the best cheering sections in the country. After a campus visit you’ll quickly see that Gaels go wild at the Division I, club and intramural level.
The SMC athletics program serves as a case study for sports journalism classes as well. Students interested in a career in communications can gain first-hand sports-reporting experience by teaming up with the D1 program.
