Crew Continues Success at Dad Vail Regatta

May 9, 2008--Schuylkill River, Philadelphia, Penn.

Saint Mary's Men's Crew has continued their successful streak from last weekend, rowing a strong 6:51.664 in the Men's Novice Four event to move on to the Semi-Finals.

Amid rain and delays, the SMC team put together one of their fastest times of the season to finish second in a very close race. The winner of their heat was the crew from Brock University of Ontario, Canada. Other finishers, in order, were: Bowdoin, Vassar, American and Binghamton.

The Gaels will next race tomorrow morning, when the top 2 finishers will move on to the finals. SMC is assigned to Lane 1, and other competitors will be Santa Clara, Purdue, Brock, Tennessee and Florida.

Go Gaels!

Men's Crew Earns 4th Place in Exciting Finish at WIRA Regatta

May 3- 4, 2008--Lake Natoma, Calif.

The Men's Crew team placed fourth overall out of 15 boats competing in the Men's Novice 4 category in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) annual regatta.

Coxswain Brad Alban '11 noted that the team's best race was Friday, when they rowed a 7:09.2 to finish second in their heat. Their time proved to be the second-fastest time out of all the boats in the category.

On the strength of that finish, the team moved on to the final on Saturday, where they finished fourth behind USD, Puget Sound, and Sonoma State. The fifth-place boat, from San Diego State, finished only seconds behind SMC, and regatta officials used video footage to award the proper places. Santa Clara's boat rounded out the event, finishing sixth.

The team will take the same successful crew to compete May 9-10 at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. Good luck and go Gaels!
