A feature story appeared in the Alameda Times-Star about author Joshua Braff, a graduate of the MFA program at Saint Mary's College, who just published his first novel, "The Unthinkable Thoughts of Jacob Green." The article talks about Braff's graduate work in fiction at Saint Mary's, where he studied with writers Ethan Canin and Pam Houston, both of whom he says were tough.
"They'd tear me in half, then I'd go home, wake up the next morning, turn on the computer and start writing just to prove to them I could," Braff says. "The competitive edge from when I played sports in school actually helped push me to write."
