James Hawley, a director of the Center for the Study of Fiduciary Capitalism at Saint Mary's College, was quoted in a Contra Costa Times article about compensation packages for Bay Area executives.
"A lot of shareholders came to believe that option grants got entirely out of control," said Hawley. "That was perceived as being a direct hit to shareholder wealth. What you're seeing nationally is a move away from options and toward restricted forms of stock, and in some cases, direct cash payment."
