The Graduate Kinesiology Program, in partnership with the MBA program, has designed a new sport management MBA for students who seek top positions in major sports organizations. Professor Andrea Eagleman, who has a doctorate in sport management from Indiana University, joined the kinesiology faculty this academic year to provide expertise in the growing field.

Professor Rebecca Engle was one of seven recipients to be awarded a Kennedy Center National Teaching Artist Grant for 2009. The honor recognizes Engle's achievements as a theater faculty member and teaching artist, and places her among the finest college directors in the country.

Provost Beth Dobkin praised the College's faculty for its scholarship during 2008 at a reception in St. Albert Hall Library in February. The past year's scholarly achievements ranged from published books and articles to prestigious national arts awards and a selection to lead a national science education initiative. The evening's remarks also highlighted ways that the College will provide greater support to faculty members, including a new full-time grant writer to assist faculty in writing proposals and securing and managing grants and contracts. A new position of faculty director will focus on workshops, events and curricular programs for faculty.

A panel of faculty members from the School of Economics and Business Administration covered a wide variety of aspects of the global financial crisis in a session sponsored by SMC's Center for the Regional Economy. The discussion drew about 150 attendees, and was covered by the Bay Area News Group.

Moraga Mayor Dave Trotter presented Brother President Ronald Gallagher on Feb. 11 with a proclamation recognizing Saint Mary's and its students, faculty and staff for the contributions they have made during the 80 years that the College has been located in Moraga. The proclamation acknowledges the more than 35,000 alumni who have passed through Moraga and work in every imaginable field in all 50 states and many countries throughout the world. The proclamation also recognizes the benefits the 1,000-plus employees have on the local economy.
