The Hearst Art Galley was accredited earlier this year for an additional 10 years by the American Association of Museums, remaining among a distinguished group of 775 museums out of the nation’s nearly 17,500 museums to be accredited. The gallery, which is the only accredited museum in Contra Costa County, has a permanent collection of 2,200 art objects, including 150 paintings by renowned California artist William Keith.

Modern languages adjunct associate professor Maria Grazia De Angelis brings European culture to the restored art deco Rheem Theatre. Her series features “Italian Night” on the first Tuesday of the month. The evenings kick off at 6 p.m. with appetizers and wine selected to match the theme and setting of the night’s movie. At 7 p.m., the professor gives a brief introduction to the film.

Broadcast journalist Callie Crossley, the College’s 2007 Woodrow Wilson fellow, spent a week on campus in February talking to classes about activism and the media. Crossley was a producer of the award-winning documentary “Eyes on the Prize: The Civil Rights Era in the United States” and is a regular commentator on NPR, CNN and C-Span. The Graduate Liberal Studies Program Speakers Bureau, which includes faculty and graduate experts on topics ranging from business ethics to playwright Eugene O’Neill, began giving free talks to community organizations earlier this year.
