Professional Experience:

  • American Management Association
    First work experience, while still a student, was at the American Management Association in New York City. The AMA provided the opportunity to meet with many first-rate, dedicated authors. This experience also sowed the seeds for later development and interest in writing and public speaking, as well as teaching the knowledge and art of management.
  • Financial and leadership positions on Berkeley campus -
    Relocated to California upon graduation from New York University. Worked in various financial and leadership positions on Berkeley campus. Cultivated a multicultural staff, diverse in gender and age. Implemented new financial systems; developed governance structure, written policy statements, institutional guidelines, personnel handbook, and grant proposals. Also served as a business consultant for profit and non-profit organizations.

Teaching Experience:

  • Saint Mary's College
    Joined the faculty at the School of Economics and Business Administration at Saint Mary's College of California in 1981. Chairperson of the Business Administration Department from 1986-1989. Received top student evaluations consistently. Developed new courses. Authored a supplemental textbook on diversity. Reviewed textbooks for publishers. Currently a tenured full professor.

    Served on Academic Senate; President's Task Force for Minority Presence on Campus; Advisory Board of the Extended Education Program; and the Faculty Development, Technology and Facilities Planning, Executive, Admissions, Academic Standards and Petitions, and Affirmative Action Compliance Committees.

    Recipient of the Lasallian Award, November, 2002 -- presented by the Bothers of Saint Mary's College to a faculty or staff who have manifested the Lasallian tradition of service to the disadvantaged and the mission of the Brothers in serving others with devotion and commitment.
  • Saint John Baptist De La Salle Award - Saint Mary's College (1998)
    Recipient of the 1998 Saint John Baptist De La Salle Award - "This award constitutes the highest tribute conferred by the Alumni upon a Saint Mary's professor for a career of scholarship and distinguished service to students."
