California Lt. Governor John Garamendi visited Saint Mary's College on June 14 and met with Brother President Ronald Gallagher. In a wide-ranging conversation, the two covered topics as diverse as education, the Middle East and foreign policy.
Garamendi, a veteran of the Peace Corps, was especially interested in Brother Ronald's experience at Bethlehem University during the 1990s.
"Your relationships in the Middle East are a real asset to the College and the country," Garamendi said.
They also discussed the legacy and contribution of the late labor leader Jack Henning '38, who died earlier this month at age 93. Henning's funeral was at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco on June 12.
After his meeting with Brother Ronald, Garamendi and his wife, Patti, attended an event at the Soda Center on campus.
