Internship Experience

Internships provide an opportunity to integrate academic learning with practical, on-the-job experience and make you much more "employable" when you graduate.

How do I benefit from an internship?

Many internships result in a full-time job offer… how cool would it be to start your senior year with a full-time job already lined up?  Most employers now expect that candidates for career positions will have completed at least one internship before graduating.

Some internships are paid, some unpaid, but whether you receive financial reward or not, your internship experience will pay dividends when you are looking for a full-time job.

How do I find an internship?

Check the listings on GaeLink frequently – they are updated every day.  If you can’t find what you’re looking for there, search by field and desired location on

How do I prepare?

Make sure you have a strong resume and cover letter! Research the company.  Make sure you have suitable business attire (i.e. a suit). Call (925) 631-4600 if you need help, or sign up for a resume or interview workshop on GaeLink.

When should I look for an internship?

It’s never too early!  Students are starting internships earlier now than ever before, so we encourage freshmen and sophomores to apply if they feel ready.  Some employers specify that they would prefer juniors or seniors but if they don’t, assume the positions are open to all years.  Watch out for application deadlines – have your resume and cover letter ready to go so you can apply as soon as you see something you like!
