CILSA provides...

Faculty Development and Assistance in Creating New Courses

Through formal training sessions, brown bag workshops, and individual consultations, CILSA staff support faculty in developing, implementing, and assessing community engagement (CE) courses. We can help faculty consider:

  • Learning objectives and assessment methods that connect to common good and community engagement
  • Potential partnerships with individuals and organizations
  • Pedagogical strategies for promoting critical reflection and enhancing learning

Community Partner Connections

Based on our relationships and College agreements with community partners, we can identify potential partners and assist with establishing mutually beneficial partnerships for community engagement courses.  We provide:

  • Connections to over 60 existing community partner organizations
  • Staff members who can help find the right individual or organization to work with students in any course
  • Opportunities to meet community partners through Community Partner Day and Get Connected

Logistical Course Support

CILSA student leaders, called Engaged Learning Facilitators (ELFs), support faculty, students and community partners in community engagement courses. ELFs can:

  • Coordinate in-class and on-site orientations
  • Support students in preparing for service (transportation considerations, TB tests, background checks, etc.)
  • Serve as liaisons that connect students, community partners, and faculty
  • Provide resources about and guide student reflection
  • Assist students in completing the necessary reporting paperwork (service hours, expense reports for reimbursement)
