In a lengthy profile of CILSA's Carnival 4 Kids, the Catholic Voice captures the atmosphere and spirit of SMC's long-running fun and games outreach initiative for the College's Community Partners. Sophomore Yesenia Baires, one of the student volunteers for this year's Carnival, is prominently featured in the article. Her first experience at Saint Mary's was similar to the elementary school students that came to the campus for an afternoon of fun. When she was a fifth grader at Saint Martin de Porres Elementary, she came to SMC for a Carnival 4 Kids outing. Baires is interviewed about the importance of the Carnival, as is Marshall Welch, the director of the Catholic Institute for Lasallian Social Action (CILSA). Carnival 4 Kids promotes higher education to children, fosters relationships amongst children and college students, and encourages a meaningful service experience for SMC students.
