Dear Saint Mary's Community Members,
I am writing to share some changes in the Student Life organization that will help better focus our collective efforts over the next several years. To reinvigorate student life on campus, I am placing the offices of residential and community life, new student and family programs, and events and conferences under the direction of a Dean of Students. The new Dean of Students role re-establishes the position that in previous years was known as Dean of Student Life. Scott Kier, currently Associate Dean of Student Life, has been appointed to this important new position. Since 2002, Scott has held leadership positions in student conduct, student development and residence life, and last year served as Interim Vice Provost for Student Life. Prior to Saint Mary's, Scott served as Dean of Students at De La Salle Collegiate High School in Warren, Michigan and CFO at Saint Joseph's Collegiate Institute in Buffalo, New York. He was a participant in the Lasallian Leadership Institute and Buttimer Institute for Lasallian Studies between 1997 and 2004.
The Women's Resource Center and Delphine Intercultural will move under direction of the Assistant Dean for Student Involvement and Leadership, Ete Martinez Anderson. This will ensure that programs supporting student identity, diversity, and inclusivity – arising from our Lasallian principles of respect for all persons and inclusive community – emphasize leadership and service.
In this new model my senior staff will include the Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean for Student Involvement and Leadership, the Director of Public Safety, the Director of the Health Center and Director of Counseling, and the Assistant to the Vice Provost. All the members of my staff are charged with strengthening relationships with our campus partners in the Associated Students, Brothers Communities, Mission and Ministry, Academic Affairs, and Enrollment. Most importantly, they are charged with enlivening the College's Mission Statement with the students at the center of our focus.
Please join me in congratulating Scott on this new phase of service to our community and Lasallian education. Thank you for your support, advice and mentorship these past months as we renew our motivation and find better ways to serve the students of Saint Mary's College.
With best regards,
Jane Camarillo, Ph.D.
Vice Provost for Student Life
