D.C. Gaels Greet Brother President
Brother President Ronald Gallagher's visit to Washington, D.C. this spring sparked a rekindling of the capital's SMC alumni chapter after a six-year hiatus. Around 20 D.C.-area alumni met and reunited, with members of classes from 1959 to 2004 represented.
In town to attend the annual conferences of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU) and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), Brother Ronald reunited with former students from his days in the English Department, and brought the crowd up to speed on what is happening at the College.
Frank Howard Jr. '79, D.C. alumni chapter president, organized the event with help from the alumni office.
"Brother Ron's visit allowed us the opportunity to revitalize our DC alumni chapter, share memories of our mutual Lasallian roots, renew old friendships and build new ones," says Howard.
New York Chapter Launched
More than 30 alumni living in the New York area met in Manhattan for an after-work social to kick off the first SMC chapter event New York has seen in many years. Lily Woo '98, former member of the alumni board of directors, and Jackie Reiter '03 organized the mixer at the underBar in the W Hotel.
Father Michael Russo, who is currently in New York on sabbatical from the Communication Department, also dropped by and reunited with former students.
