Dear Colleagues,

It is with mixed emotions that I am reporting that the College's first Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Ed Biglin, has announced that he will be transitioning back to the faculty in early 2012. Ed was instrumental in the successful formation of the Computer and Technology Services (CaTS) Department in 2003 through the reorganization of several independent technology groups then in existence. Since 2003, Ed has transformed CaTS into an integrated organization that strives to deliver an expanding array of technology and services that advance the mission and strategic goals of the College.

I plan to more formally thank and recognize Ed later this year for his service as the College's CTO. I hope you will join me at that time in celebrating Ed and his transition back to the faculty. In the interim, Ed will continue as the College's CTO.

I would also like to report the formation of a search committee to find a new CTO. Provost Bethami Dobkin has agreed to serve as chair of the search committee and will be supported by an executive search firm and a search committee composed of members of the campus community. The search committee is expected to be selected and operational by early October, with a targeted completion date of mid-January. This recruitment timeline should allow the new CTO to participate in the strategic technology planning process that is currently underway.
