The emphasis of Archives collecting is on documenting and preserving College history including institutional history (e.g. changes in organizational structure, goals, objectives, and assessments) as well as events and trends affecting the College as an institution.

The Archives collects Saint Mary’s College publications, both official as well as informal publications, e.g. programs, journals, magazines and newspapers, posters, reports, and brochures. The Archives collects photographs, video and audio recordings, and memorabilia documenting the life and history of the College. Selectively, the Archives collects official correspondence, minutes, and meeting agendas, curriculum and program reviews and analyses, and representative budget documents which document the work of the College. The Archives also collects individual research reports and publications by current faculty, students, and staff.
