SMC alumni comment on their Collegiate Seminar experience

The Fitzpatrick Family

Saint Mary's College of California is a "home away from home" for the Fitzpatrick family. All 3 generations of these Fitzpatricks had different Saint Mary's experiences, but they're united in the values they learned. All feel shaped by the quality of education, lifelong friendships begun here, the beauty of the campus - and most importantly, the influence of the Christian Brothers.

Saint Mary's heritage weaves throughout their lives, from Brother DeSales Perez, godfather to Dennis' youngest daughter; to Jerry Jr., whose love of the classics grew out of Collegiate Seminar; to Lisa, who teaches and counsels at Saint Joseph's Grammar School in Alameda. Jerry Jr. came of age during the '60s, and credits Saint Mary's for strengthening his faith during times of turbulent change for the country. Dennis still values the "incredible exchange of ideas" in Collegiate Seminar, and Lisa cherishes the memory of trips to Mexico as part of Campus Ministry. Perhaps her grandfather, Jerry Sr. puts it best: "Saint Mary's has adapted to new technologies, but it's still a place where people matter most."

THE FITZPATRICKS - Jerry Sr. (class of 1942), Jerry Jr. (class of 1967), Dennis (class of 1970), and Lisa (class of 1995)
