Who: WomenSing, an auditioned chorus, with Artistic Director MartÃn Benvenuto, Accompanist Paul Caccamo, the Jubilate Orchestra, and Cal Shakes Summer Theater students.
What: "Sounds and Sweet Airs" tour from the 17th century era of the baroque to the present. The program will include 17th centry sacred sounds of Vivaldi's "Beatus Vir and Hasse's "Miserere" as well as a 21st-century setting of the "Mass" by Hungarian composer GyÃ¶rgy OrbÃ¡n. The program also includes Mendelssohn's motet, Surrexit Pastor Bonus, Students in costume from the Cal Shakes Summer Theater Program will participate in the concert during the West Coast premiere of Cary Ratcliff's "Three Songs From Shakespeare's â€˜A Midsummer Night's Dream.'" The chorus will also perform "How Sweet the Moonlight Sleeps," by Texan composer Robert Young, based on texts from "The Merchant of Venice." WomenSing will top off the program with a celebratory St. Patrick's Day set, with favorites such as ""Danny Boy" and "Cockles and Mussels." A reception with Irish coffee follows the performance.
