The Contra Costa Times looks at the 40th anniversary of women at Saint Mary's by way of a unique Jan Term course. "The 'Skirts' on Campus: 40 Years of Women at Saint Mary's: Co-education and the Women's Movement" was a month-long class taught by Liberal and Civic studies coordinator and assistant professor Monica Fitzgerald. The course examined the history of co-education at the College, the national women's movement and documented the stories of the first generation of women at SMC. Fitzgerald was interviewed about the historical importance of "The Skirts," the dramatic oral histories that came out of the class and the impact recording those first person stories had on participating students and the alumnae who shared their experiences with them.
