The Contra Costa Times reports on the Hearst Art Gallery's new policy of free admission to active military members and their families. Free admission to cultural institutions for active military members grew out of efforts by the Blue Star Families organization in 2008 to support families with a parent or spouse serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The decision for the gallery to become a Blue Star Museum was an easy one for the Hearst Art Gallery's director Carrie Brewster. "We just thought it was a great thing to do. I'm kind of partial since my daughter is on active duty in the Navy," Brewster says in the article.
