The Contra Costa Times offered the editorial “Public is invited to join the party at Saint Mary’s” to recognize the College’s 150th anniversary and noted the College’s free public open house and festival on October 6, 2012.
The editorial acknowledged the College’s deep roots in the Bay Area, including its beginnings in San Francisco in 1863 during the middle of the Civil War, its move to Oakland in 1889 and resettling in Moraga in 1928.
The opinion piece also noted the contributions the college has made as a pivotal institution of higher education in the Bay Area and its recent inclusion in the prestigious guidebook Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change The Way You Think About College. The editorial also noted that SMC is the only California college, and only Catholic college, in the history of the guidebook.
The commentary also appeared in a more than a half dozen East Bay newspapers belonging to the Bay Area News Group, including the Alemeda Times Star, Argus, Daily Review, Oakland Tribune, San Mateo County Times and the Tri-Star Herald.
