The Contra Costa TImes reports on two recently established diversity scholarships for students in the Graduate Business Program of the School of Economics and Business Administration. Established in the spring, the Raul and Shari Deju Hispanic Scholarship and the Lighthouse Scholarship for Diversity serve students of Hispanic and Asian descent, respectively.
Raul Deju, a Moraga resident and executive with EnergySolutions, is interviewed about the scholarship established in his family's name to recognize the importance of the Hispanic community's continued economic growth and the need to improve opportunities for qualified Hispanic students. Also interviewed in the story is Song Woo, who received an MBA from Saint Mary's in 2005 and funded the Lighthouse Scholarship to attract Asian-Americans to the SMC graduate business programs.
SEBA dean Zhan Li is quoted several times in the article. He addresses the importance of creating entrepreneurs from diverse communities to create new economic opportunities and business ventures abroad and in the Bay Area, Li also says he is also working to establish a third diversity graduate business scholarship for African American students.
