CAPS ensures the strictest confidence in regards to the information that individuals bring to the Center.
This provides the atmosphere necessary for the student to feel free to communicate the total problem relating to the issue needing resolution. All personal information discussed by students in the counseling session is confidential in accordance with California law and ethical standards. Information will not be revealed to anyone outside the Counseling Center unless the student gives written permission.
Exceptions to confidentiality that are required by law include situations in which there is reasonable suspicion of abuse of children, elderly persons or dependent adults; where the client presents a serious threat of violence to another; or when the client is likely to harm her or himself unless protective measures are taken.
