Prose Title
[dreams without pronouns]

They say, ‘the main purpose of language
is to prohibit.’
I want to burn
our essential belongings

to see if there are roots without flower, flesh
without toll, dreams without pronouns.
They say, ‘the main purpose of language is

to indicate our needs.’
But even this
decays, sentences under flag.
They say, ‘the main purpose of language is to name

each strand of stranded hair
.’ I hide my eyes
to see what darkness chooses.
They say, ‘the main purpose of language is to live

in the memory of those who don’t see us.’

With what anguish will we receive each thing?
With what gratitude?
