The Alumni Association will once again award a total of $10,000 to deserving faculty members. The awards will be announced by early May. Recipients will be designated “Alumni-Faculty Fellows for 2008.”
The purpose of the grants is to assist the College in meeting its educational goal of being an outstanding Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts institution of higher learning through faculty development. The Alumni Association also seeks to foster a closer relationship between its members and the College faculty through these annual grants.
All full-time faculty members who taught in the fall, including past recipients, are invited to apply. Recent recipients are asked to wait two years before they re-apply. A committee composed of faculty and alumni will choose the recipients.
Applicants may apply for grant monies in any amount up to $5000. The review committee will select recipients based on the merits of the proposals and will award grants up to the total available funds.
Award recipients are expected to attend the Annual Alumni Association Board of Directors year-end reception. You will be introduced to the gathering, and perhaps asked for a short presentation of your project. If a project results in a publication or conference paper, the applicant will acknowledge the support of the Saint Mary’s College Alumni-Faculty Fellowship Fund.
Important Tax Notice: IRS policy requires that the grants be taxed by the College as regular income. For that reason, applicants should be aware that usable grant monies would be the amount of the grant, less the individual’s normal payroll deductions.
APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE ALUMNI OFFICE BY NOON, April 2, 2008. THE RECIPIENTS OF THE GRANTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED BY EARLY MAY.
If you have any questions concerning the grants, please call the Alumni Office at ext. 4200.
Sincerely,
Lloyd V. Schine III ’98, ’04, Director of Alumni Relations
