An associate professor, and chair of SMC's Mathematics and Computer Science department, Jones, in addition to teaching courses on calculus, engineering math and coding theory, has a great interest in the mathematics of sports.
Chris Jones can address various aspects on the intersections of math and sports, including deciphering the reality of an athlete's or team's winning streaks or explaining the mathematical motivations behind the NFL's overtime scoring rule changes.
When he's not anaylizing sports through a mathematical lens, the SMC Mathematics and Computer Science department chair teaches courses on the Fundamental Concepts of Mathematic, Introductory Statistic, Linear Algebra and Mathematical Modeling.
In addition, Jones coordinates an annual summer math camp for gifted, but under resourced high school students and a Math Olympiad for talented urban middle schoolers.
Jones can be reached in his office at (925) 631-8047 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
