What: Performing Arts Faculty Recital
â€¢ Mori Achen will open the concert with a performance of a solo classical guitar piece by one of Cuba's most important composers, Leo Brouwer.
â€¢ Trumpeter Adam Luftman will perform "Legende" by Enesco, accompanied by pianist and NightinGaels Asst. Director Sharon Lee. Adam is the new Principal Trumpet with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra Adam will be joined by San Francisco Symphony violinist Kelly Pearce for a performance of faculty member Marty Rokeach 1996 work, "Fast Lane."
â€¢ In honor of the Jewish high holidays cellist Dawn Foster-Dodson will perform the poignant "Kol Nidre" by Jerome Kessler. (For those of you who enjoy seeing musicals in San Francisco, Dawn was Principal Cellist in "The Color Purple," "Wicked" and numerous other musicals.) She will be joined by flutist Patrice Hambelton to play a truly haunting work based on an ancient Welsh theme, "Llef," by New York composer Hilary Tann.
â€¢ The College's Artist-in-Residence, bass/baritone Louis Lebherz, will sing a powerful aria from Wagner's "Die Meistersinger," accompanied by Renee Witon.
â€¢ Clarinetist Tony Striplen and violist Pamela Freund-Striplen, both with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, will perform a duo by a wonderful composer who never received the attention she deserved, Rebecca Clarke.
â€¢ The concert will close with pianist extraordinaire Lino Rivera performing a suite from Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess."
