She will join students from Stanford University, Saint Mary’s College, Santa Clara University, University of San Francisco and Mills College in 15-minute presentations of research papers on a wide variety of topics.

The free event will be held from 1-3:30 p.m.

Hoytt, who works as a flight paramedic for REACH helicopters out of Concord and Lakeport, will present “Hildegard of Bingen in Her Time and Today,” a paper she wrote in a medieval art history class taught by Dr. Leslie Ross, professor and chair of Art History at Dominican. Dr. Ross, who will be a guest lecturer in Koret Auditorium on Friday, April 25, asked Hoytt to present her paper at the symposium in San Francisco.

“My passion  for art history has everything to do with its connection to the humanities and that is one of the main reasons I am so profoundly grateful to Dominican,” Hoytt says. “I was able to keep my passion (medicine) in mind going through even an art history class, and connect a medieval illumination to a historically significant healer (Hildegard). Because I was given the freedom to make connections that were meaningful to me, I was able to research and write about something that I loved.”
