On April 5th, the Saint Mary’s College Sacramento Graduate Business Alumni Chapter organized a “Learn” event to support SEBA’s alumni mission to network, learn, and serve. Held at the beautiful California Museum, a block away from the State Capitol, the panel discussion was moderated by alumnus Jim Allen (MBA ’99), Vice President of Community Banking for SAFE Credit Union.
Why this topic? Allen explains his reasoning for bringing this event together. “In the broad context, we all lived through a significant economic event. The upheaval in the last few years is going to continue to drive changes to public policy, consumer sentiment, and employers and how they react to situations around them. I think all that change happening around each individual is forcing us to confront these facts:
- ‘How am I going to remain relevant?’
- ‘How am I going to maintain the skillset that lets me be employed?’
- 'Maybe I’ve been succeeding the rat race I don’t like running in the rat race and I don’t like the results of having won the rat race. What about me, what can I do for myself?'"
The purpose of the panel discussion was to explain the different types of coaching available. The panelists included Laura Perez, Leadership Coach; Dean Tracy, Career Coach; Pat Ferris, Executive Coach; and Roger Kenneth Marsh, Life Coach. These coaches explained the difference in the types of coaching they provide, supported by two coaching customers who shared how their careers/lives were positively changed from their coaches.
