Board of Trustees Approve Construction Contract for Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center
The next phase of construction for the Joseph L. Alioto Recreation will commence in early September. On August 26, the College’s Board of Trustees approved a $23.5 million project budget for the construction of the center and awarded the construction contract to C. Overaa & Co. of Richmond, Calif. They also committed to continue fundraising efforts to fully fund the approved project budget. Funds raised to date equal 82% of the approved project budget, which exceeds the board’s policy threshold of 40% at the time of award of construction contracts.
The Joseph L. Alito Recreation Center will provide expanded recreational opportunities for the College community. The 60,000-square-foot building will house three gymnasiums, a large open area for cardio fitness equipment and free weights, three activity rooms, a climbing wall, snack bar and locker room facilities. The project also includes an outdoor aquatics center comprised of an 8,500 square foot surface area swimming pool and a 2,400 square foot surface area spa. Finally, the project includes a plaza area that connects the Recreation Center with Louis Guisto Baseball Field, Tim Korth Tennis Courts and Cottrell Softball Field.
Completion of the project is expected during spring semester 2015, although efforts will be made to advance the completion to the beginning of spring semester 2015. Information about the construction of the project, including construction alerts and updates, can be found on this page.
